This important text provides a critique of the available evidence underpinning practice, including evidence based guidelines developed by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, and the NSF for Long Term Conditions. Each chapter contains the relevant anatomy & physiology, epidemiology, learning outcomes, assessment skills and evidence-based nursing management guidance. Divided into 8 comprehensive sections, section 1 looks at the anatomy & physiology of the nervous system. Section 2 explores the asessment, interpretation and managemetn of specific problems in the neurological patient including altered motor & sensory function, altered speech and cranial nerve dysfunction. Section 3 covers management of intracranial disorders and disease, while section 4 addresses the nursing management of long-term conditions, such as Motor Neuron Disease, Multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, management of intracranial disorders, spinal disorders, and disease of peripheral nerves. The management of head and spine trauma, and spinal disorders and disease are discussed in sections 5 & 6 and the management of disorders and the disease of peripheral nerves is covere din section 7. Finally, section 8 explores the fundamental concepts of neuroscience nursing, including legal and ethical issues, and dilemmas and challenges that nurses working in this field might face.
